I bring a diverse business background to the classroom: reporter for the nations’s largest regional wire service, radio news broadcaster, PR exec. I have also been an actor, writer, and producer in the entertainment industry.
My teaching experience has been equally varied.
I’ve substitute taught at UCLA Lab School, taught chess in afterschool programs and at Beverly Hills Adult School, tutored English to internatonal students, and taught improv and creativity to men and women at Homeboy Industries, the world's largest network of adult turnaround programs.

In teaching I bring the best of my stage presence to the classroom. While focused on the learning objectives, I believe students are most receptive when smiling. I've done on-camera, theatre, and standup. So if something goes wrong, I "find the funny" and put everyone at ease. With a teacher-centered approach, I see myself as sparking interest and excitement among the students, then tending that flame throughout the class.
I believe every student should be treated with respect and compassion. My teaching philosophy reflects a Liberalist commitment to a well-rounded background for students. I foster their enthusiasm, use effective teaching tools and strategies, and give them opportunities to learn concepts and practice useful skills they will need in the future.

about the tesol program
Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages (TESOL)
UCLA Extension offers one of the most highly-regarded TESOL programs available. In one year, Bill completed the Intro, Methods, Technologies, Linguistics, Cultural Perspectives, and Practicum courses, thus earning the TESOL certificate in 2026.
